Although these razors are sharp right out of the box, they may need further sharpening depending upon your particular hair texture (and the area to be shaved). The initial preparation of the blade can be done using a very fine sharpening stone. The sharpening strop is used for the blade maintenance between shaves. A simple rule of thumb is to resharpen when the razor begins to "tug" on the hair.
Never move the blade toward the cutting edge as it will cut into the strop, resulting in dulling of the edge and damage to the strop. A few strokes are usually sufficient. A strop is best used before you even think your edge is dull. Used consistently, it is a key step in maintaining a razor-sharp edge.
You strop on the leather surface, not the rough leather bottom—you use the very top of the strop where you’ll find the smoothest leather. Use the blue part to wipe the blade just before you start to strop. Stropping is a sliding motion that pulls the cutting edge of a blade away from a strip of leather to sharpen the blade. It’s a great method of keeping a razor clean and easy to use as it produces a very sharp final edge.
If your new razor does not meet your sharpness standards out of the box, Naked Armor will pay to professionally hone your razor.

I read reviews of straight razor kits from several sites. In terms of bang for your buck, this is the best! It's perfect for a beginner because the blade is already hone.
