Flying With A Shaving Razor This Thanksgiving?

Flying With A Shaving Razor This Thanksgiving?

Naked Armor

When one thinks about Thanksgiving Day, what springs to mind? A lavish spread of home cooked meal, a turkey roast, gravy and lots of holiday cheer.

For some people though, all that preparation leading into Thanksgiving dinner is enough to give them a boatload of stress. And we haven’t even brought up the topic of visiting in-laws.

That’s why for these people, travelling during Thanksgiving is a much better option to spend the holidays. Making it into a Thanksgiving vacation can make the long weekend fun and stress-free for everyone.

Travelling with family on Thanksgiving puts a new spin on celebrating the holiday.

Perhaps Travel and Leisure said it best when it noted that Thanksgiving travel “lends an exciting cast of rebellion and hedonism to the weekend, transforming it from a duty to an escape, and turning accompanying family members into devilish co-conspirators.”

That being said, travelling through airports this season can be a hellish experience. With all the restrictions that the Transportation Security Administration is bent on foisting on the unprepared traveller, it can take away the cheer from the holiday experience.

Flying with a Razor

Like for instance, did you know that the TSA requires that all razors must be placed in your checked baggage?

In fact, anything with blades, points and spikes should be checked in. That includes knives, although why anyone would carry a knife while on a vacation is beyond us. This restriction also extends to gadgets or tools with blades attached.

This is pretty much inconvenient for those of us who like to carry our grooming tools in our carry-on. In fact, who even checks in a carry-on when they’re on a weekend getaway? It weighs you down and adds more stress, especially if, by crazy chance, the checked-in baggage gets left behind by the airline!

But yeah, that's how strict the TSA rules are. Safety and straight razors must be inside checked-in baggage. Only disposable and electric razors, however, are allowed on carry-ons, but then, nobody likes using them anyway.

In fact, regular users of straight and safety razors do not like using disposable razors when on vacation. Having been accustomed to their own home razors, they find it difficult to get a quick and easy shave from a disposable.

But since rules are rules, one has to follow them, even if it means checking in that carry-on so that you can bring your own straight razor. You don’t want to be that person holding up the line of stressed passengers at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening.

When one is packing for a weekend getaway, it’s best to have a separate grooming kit ready to go. Even the most diligent of packers can forget to pack grooming essentials so having a kit ready is an effortless way to bring your grooming routine anywhere you go. This saves time, precious luggage space, and last minute packing stress.

Packing It in a Kit

But how in the world does one carry a razor in a carry-on? Does one just throw it inside and scrounge for it when you finally need a shave? Or drop it in a zip lock bag, before putting it inside the carry-on?

When one is packing for a weekend getaway, it’s best to have a separate grooming kit ready to go. Even the most diligent of packers can forget to pack grooming essentials so having a kit ready is an effortless way to bring your grooming routine anywhere you go. This saves time, precious luggage space, and last minute packing stress.

Naturally, for a man who shaves, this would be a shaving kit.

A shaving kit contains his razor and all the essential wet shaving supplies he needs, like a compact shave bowl and soap, to look and feel his best even when on a vacation this Thanksgiving.
